I am a mixed media textile artist and have always insisted that I am not a quilter, but recently all my work seems to end up quilted or pieced, so I decided to give in to the inevitable and joined Contemporary Quilts west to explore where this will take me. I started out like most people embroidering as a child and then as I got older dressmaking and lace making. I then did a City and Guilds course in embroidery and surface design. Following from the City and Guilds I joined a textile masterclass group with Lyn Griffiths to experiment further, this led to mixed media image transfer, altered books and a range of dyeing and felting techniques which have led to my work today. I am embarking on a journey looking at contrasts in textures and materials warm and cool, solid and transparent, thick and thin and look forward to seeing where contemporary quilting will take me.
